We are looking to recruit an exceptional and enthusiastic Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our dedicated Pre-Operative Assessment and Gynaecology team within the Gynaecology Outpatients Department at Arrowe Park Hospital.

The Gynaecology Unit consists of the Gynaecology Outpatient Department and Treatment Centre, a 16 bedded inpatient ward and Day case Unit, and an acute Gynaecology Assessment and Early Pregnancy Unit. 

This is a fast paced outpatient department and includes general Gynaecology clinics, Rapid Access, Oncology, Colposcopy, hysteroscopy, Urogynaecology, Fertility, Minor ops and Non theatre procedures' and Pre-Operative services.

You will support the ongoing development of the Pre-Operative Assessment service ensuring safe and effective pre-operative care. 

You will be working autonomously, completing pre-operative assessments for a caseload of patients awaiting Gynaecological surgery, including a targeted assessment of past medical, operative and anaesthetic history. 

This exciting opportunity involves supporting throughout a variety of our outpatient services including, assisting in colposcopy, hysteroscopy, general outpatients and procedural sub speciality clinics.

You will work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure a smooth, safe and positive journey for all of our patients. 

The post holder will have excellent communication skills and have an ability to deal with potentially difficult and emotive situations relating to pregnancy loss and oncology in a sensitive manner, and make decisions using their own judgement whilst recognising the remit of their role.

The successful candidate will support the nursing and medical team to provide safe care and treatment for patients during their appointment in the unit. 

This will include supporting with coordination and setting up of clinics and chaperoning the clinical team.  The role will also support with infection prevention and control.

As this vacancy is within the division of Women’s and Children’s, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is £16 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust. Further details of how to join the update service will be provided upon appointment.
