Job overview
We are looking to appoint to the post of Junior Clinical fellow in Medical Microbiology as 6-month fixed term. The successful candidate will work with a team of 2 Consultants Microbiologists, 2 speciality doctors and 2 clinical scientists to provide a comprehensive Clinical Microbiology service for Wirral University Teaching Hospital (WUTH) and Wirral Primary Care.
The post holder will be based at Arrowe Park Hospital where most inpatient wards are located. The diagnostic laboratory is Chester and Wirral Microbiology Service (CWMS) and is jointly owned by WUTH and Countess of Chester (COCH) NHS Trusts. It is located in Bromborough, Wirral.
Candidates for the post must hold Full registration (and with current a license to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
This post is suitable for doctors looking to gain insight and some clinical experience in the specialty. This experience will benefit the post-holder to pursue a formal training in Infectious disease/ Microbiology as a career , if so interested.

Main duties of the job
The Clinical team currently comprises of 2 Consultant Microbiologists and 2 Clinical Scientists and 2 specialty doctors. Together, they provide a comprehensive, efficient and high-quality medical microbiology and infection control service. This service extends to in-patients and out-patients in Arrowe Park Hospital and Clatterbridge Hospital, primary care on the Wirral (GPs and community Trust). The candidate will be expected to integrate within the team to enhance the service. The post is based in Arrowe Park Hospital.
In addition, the clinical team provides medical support to the microbiology laboratory (CWMS) which is located off-site in Bromborough.

- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Registered with GMC
- Eligibility to work in the UK

- MRCP
- Evidence of Work within the NHS
Training & Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum 2 years postgraduate clinical experience in clinical medicine
Desirable criteria
- Interest in pursuing Medical microbiology/Infectious disease for speciality training
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Enthusiasm for teaching medical students, nursing staff and other professional groups
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in delivering formal teaching is desirable
Knowledge
