Job overview

To assist Registered Nurses and other members of the multidisciplinary team in implementing patients’ care plan. Also undertake some clerical and domestic duties to ensure a safe and clean environment.

Main duties of the job

  • Assisting with personal care, toileting, feeding and care of the dying
  • Works in accordance to Trust policies and procedures
  • Act as a role model to new starters and others as appropriate
  • Documents observations in accordance with Trust policy
  • Assist the registered nurse in administering direct patient care
  • Prioritising own workload
  • Informs qualified nursing staff of any changes in patients’ condition or observations
  • Escort and chaperone patients as appropriate
  • Communicate with patients/carers taking into consideration the needs of the individual
  • Undertake some clerical duties such as filing and answering telephone.
  • Ensure availability, cleanliness and maintenance of equipment
  • Assist in the safe handling of patients valuables and property
  • Adhere to Wirral Hospital objectives, policies, protocols and guidelines.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential criteria
  • Level 2 in Care (or appropriate experience and commit to undertaking and completing within 18 months of commencement)
  • Undertake all Mandatory training
  • Completed clinical competencies for clinical tasks and procedures as appropriate
Desirable criteria
  • Completed Care Certificate
  • Experience working in a clinical environment
  • Experience working in the NHS

Knowledge and Skills
