Job overview

The Paediatric Diabetes team in CTMUHB are looking to recruit a Band 7 Paediatric Diabetes Nurse Specialist.. The Band 7 post holder will be part of the wider diabetes MDT.. They will be pivotal to ensuring that children diagnosed with diabetes receive care in line with current best practice and should demonstrate innovative ways of working. The ability to work with the existing teams and across the sites within CTMUHB is essential. 

 As a Band 7 PDNS you should demonstrate excellent leadership qualities and have experience of quality improvement. You will be both leading a service, leading patients and leading staff within your team. You will have the support of both the diabetes MDT based on site and the wider team across CTMUHB. You should role model the importance of team work. 

 Applicants will need to be able to work autonomously within the UHB and professional guidelines, referring to both the MDT and seniors as appropriate. 

 Previous experience as a PDNS is essential to this post. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

Working as an autonomous practitioner devise, implement and follow up specialist treatments across the disease spectrum for patients whilst ensuring family centred care is at the core of all interventions.

To be a skilled practitioner providing expert clinical care using an extensive theoretical knowledge base and practical experience to underpin the role, while acting as a role model for the delivery of expert care.

To deliver specialist educational programmes to a range of healthcare professionals in relation to the specific disease, including medical, nursing and Allied Health Professional staff.

 

To line manage staff in the specialist area including potential line management of staff from other disciplines as the need arises.

To drive quality improvement and advocate team work in line with service improvement and development.

To lead research and audit within given speciality internally and externally to the UHB.

The post holder must act in a manner consistent with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct carrying out their duties in accordance with Health Board policies and procedures; Common Assessment Framework (Every Child Matters 2004, National Service Framework for children and young people 2005).

The post holder will be expected to provide some cross site nursing team lead support as required.

Qualification and or Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered RSCN / Child Branch
  • Paediatric Diabetic Qualification
  • Masters Degree in relevant advanced nursing practice or working at Masters Level
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching and Assessing or equivalent teaching and qualification
  • Management or Leadership Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous Specialist Paediatric Experience e.g Band 6 PDSN Experience
  • Experience working with children/young people with Diabeties
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of Reflective Practice
