Perinatal Well Being Specialist Midwife

Job overview

The Perinatal Wellbeing Specialist Midwife will work collaboratively, ensuring the delivery of high quality midwifery care that is family-centred, clinically driven and flexible, developing initiatives that support and optimise emotional wellbeing and maternal mental health throughout the maternity journey, particularly providing support to women affected by mild to moderate mental health conditions, birth related trauma and/or tokophobia. 


They will work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and the Perinatal Mental Health Implementation Network and Strategic programme for mental health, and will contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and review of relevant screening tools, pathways, processes, policies and guidance to identify women and birthing people with mild to moderate mental health conditions, birth related trauma and/or tokophobia and ensure they receive appropriate maternity care, psychological care and support. 

Main duties of the job

Undertake a highly visible clinical role, raising the profile of perinatal mental health across the maternity service, leading the strategic maternal mental health agenda.
 
Be expected to exercise a high degree of professional autonomy, providing advice, support, clinical care, supervision and staff training within the area of expertise in order to enhance perinatal mental health care across services at CTMUHB.
 
Act as a lead resource for maternity services with expert knowledge of psychological support for women and birthing people to provide clinical advice and support. 
 
Be responsible for close collaborative working, liaison and communication with key teams and agencies such as the maternity team, obstetric team, community midwifery team, Birth Reflections service, specialist perinatal mental health midwife and team, specialist health visitor for perinatal mental health and health visiting teams.
 
Liaise with other local services, including Local Authority, Nurturing Families (Parent-Infant Relationships), third sector, voluntary and charity organisations who provide mental health support, to develop and maximise support for service users across CTMUHB localities.
 
Be expected to act as a professional role model in order to ensure others are enablers to support the priorities for achieving good emotional wellbeing and mental health support in the local population
