With a wealth of learning and development opportunities such as a Band 6 Development Framework, a training passport tailored to your learning needs and peer support you will be able to consolidate and enhance your specialist Occupational Therapy and leadership and management skills.
As part of a close MDT, you will work together with your patients to identify meaningful goals, provide assessments, identify appropriate interventions and support their independence and discharge from hospital.
The post holder will carry an independent caseload of patients and deliver occupational therapy intervention to a high standard with the ethos of providing evidence based, high quality interventions.
The successful candidate will work closely with the MDT, Principal OT, Discharge Liaison Team and Local Authorities to ensure effective cross boundary and agency working.
Main duties of the job
To provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention and rehabilitation to patients to ensure improved functional recovery, prompt discharge and to enable the person to remain in their home.
You will provide supervision and support to junior members of the team and student Occupational Therapists and have a passion for delivering evidence based, quality intervention using research, audit and quality improvement projects. The post holder will be flexible to service needs, possess excellent self-management skills and administer their caseload efficiently to ensure effective intervention focused on preventing avoidable admissions, rehabilitation and efficient discharge planning, depending on setting.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy Post graduate training.
- Relevant postgraduate level training.
- Registered member of the Health Professional Council.
- Documented evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
- Membership of professional body
- Post-graduate training in motivational interviewing, goal planning
- Accreditation in fieldwork education for OT students
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of autonomous caseload management, comprising assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation within relevant clinical areas.
- Understanding the OT process with particular emphasis on physical conditions
- Supervision of staff.
- Understanding the current best practice in OT with designated client group.
- Knowledge of the principle of clinical governance.
- Knowledge of a range of policies/procedures e.g. ( risk management, protection of venerable adults, DOLs)
- Application of knowledge gained through attendance at relevant courses.
- Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice
Desirable criteria
- Experience of audit.
- Experience of multidisciplinary working.
- Experience of working in the community
- Experience of service delivery in a variety of different clinical physical health settings
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Ability to work single-handedly with individuals or groups
- Organisational, planning and time management skills.
- Demonstrable clinical reasoning skills, and able to make effective clinical decisions following assessment of complex cases Knowledge of broad range of medical, surgical and orthopaedic conditions
- Knowledge and understanding of cognitive, physical, psychological and cultural factors which can influence discharge planning
- Understanding of team dynamics
- Ability to work under pressure within a multi/inter disciplinary team.
- Ability to negotiate with others where opinions differ
- Ability to undertake physical activity required for handling of clients.
- Physical and emotional stamina to deal with sensitive and difficult situations.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Computer skills e.g. use of word, excel, PowerPoint and data inputting.
- Evidence of undertaking presentation to groups
Desirable criteria
- Welsh language speaking/listening at Level 3 or above
