Job overview
The post holder will provide a comprehensive and high quality secretarial and administrative support to the Consultant, doctors and other professionals within the Ophthalmology Department.
The post holder will also be expected to liaise in a professional manner with colleagues, visitors and patients and undertake a wide spectrum of administrative and secretarial duties.
The post holder will be expected to manage and prioritise their own workload using experience and initiative. The post holder will work independently to provide a secretarial and administrative office function, adhering to UHB policies and procedures.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to perform the full range of duties outlined in this Job Description.
The principal accountabilities of this post are:
· Plan own day to day tasks and duties.
· Undertake routine typing and audio typing of clinical correspondence.
· Manage Consultant’s diaries.
· Prioritise results, organise clinical activity and patient admissions.
· Liaise with patients, General Practitioners and other Health Boards/Trusts to arrange ongoing treatment and care

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
- RSA/OCR Level III or equivalent level of knowledge, skills and experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical/surgical terminology
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of University Health Board procedures.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience in a secretarial role
- Knowledge of the Welsh PAS (Myrddin) system.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a hospital environment.
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Excellent keyboard and audio typing skills.
- Excellent communication and telephone skills.
- Ability to deal with staff at all levels.
Desirable criteria
- Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above
