Job overview

 An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a friendly, motivated Paediatric team at the Princess of WalesHospital.

The successful candidate will be based within the Paediatric Department at The Princess of Wales Hospital which comprises of  Children Wards and Paediatric Outpatients. The wards care for children aged 0-16 yrs of age.

Main duties of the job

HCSW duties at band 2 include supporting and caring for children and their families. Assisting the Registered Nurses, play leader and the Medical team to ensure the smooth running of the Paediatric Unit. Duties will include ensuring the stock of equipment on the ward and general cleanliness on the unit is maintained.

You will be working with the Registered Nurses to provide general care for children and their families, and this can include preparing patients for theatre, chaperoning them to theatre and other appointments within the hospital, recording of observations and providing care to meet hygiene needs of the patients.

The Health Board currently operate a number of different shift systems. The most common are a 12.5 hour shift, inclusive of either one 30 minute or two 30-minute unpaid breaks. These shift patterns are subject to review and the Health Board reserves the right to change working arrangements. CTM is a Health Board committed to meaningful consultation with staff and to making balanced decisions that consider all aspects of our service and workforce.

Qualifications / Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 2 or the equivalent level of knowledge, training & experience
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 2 in Health & Social Care
  • Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are Desirable for this Role.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Have experience of caring for children within the field of health or social care
Desirable criteria
  • Previous HCSW experience in a health care environment
