Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional, creative and dynamic leader with a proven track record of clinical services delivery and innovation.  The post holder will have the strategic and operational freedom to shape a strong team to ensure we are able to deliver today and build our strategy for where we want to be tomorrow, aligned to the departments strategic vision.  As a role model and champion for Pharmacy and Medicine Management, the post holder will maintain and lead a profile with Pharmacy, the Health Board and into our wider system partners.

The post holder joins an experienced and innovative Pharmacy Senior Management  Team (SMT) reporting to the Director of Pharmacy and Medicines Management to provide strategic, clinical and professional leadership for the development of Pharmacy services across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.  They will work in close collaboration with senior leaders to deliver the vision for Pharmacy Services across the sectors, developing and delivering innovative, high quality services to improve patient care.

They will be responsible for developing a confident and flexible workforce working seamlessly across the health Board in partnership with the team and wider professions.

Main duties of the job

  The post holder will be the professional accountable leader across the directorate, ensuring appropriate structures are in place to support and inspire staff at all levels within areas of responsibility, encouraging innovation, excellence and succession planning.  They will advise, support and discuss with the Senior Management Team and lead pharmacists, and strategically deliver on all aspects of decisions relating to the procurement, distribution and supply of medicines.  They will strategically lead and deliver the Health Board’s objectives relating to digital medicines, including electronic prescribing

  The Deputy Director of Pharmacy, Acute Services is a key member of the Pharmacy SMT, and responsible for the Medicines Management Quality, Safety, Risk and Experience Committee, and is responsible for ensuring a high quality and effective pharmacy and medicines management service is provided across all hospital sites, through the senior leadership team at each hospital site. 

  The post holder will lead a team of pharmacy professionals and support staff to deliver the Health Board’s Clinical Services Strategy, ensuring that the Health Board’s corporate objectives, policies and strategic intentions are delivered throughout the Health Board.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience at senior management level within NHS (hospital, primary care or community) pharmacy services
  • Evidence of leading and effectively managing complex organisational change
  • Evidence of successfully influencing senior management and other professionals
  • Experience of financial and human resource management
  • A proven track record of dealing with complex situations and the delivery of challenging corporate objectives
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of working within a highly complex and politically sensitive organisation
  • Evidence of research

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy
  • Postgraduate Pharmacy Qualification
  • Postgraduate Management Qualification
  • Expert knowledge of and experience in implementing strategies and plans for the delivery of services and policy directives.
Desirable criteria
  • Faculty Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, or credentialed to Advanced or Consultant level
