Job overview

Working as part of the Endoscopy Department team assist in the delivery of a high standard of care to patients undergoing Endoscopic procedures, acting in a professional manner at all times.

Be able to communicate in a manner that is understood and always in a polite and respectful manner. Enable patients to meet all their personal needs in accordance with individual preferences and clinical need. Ensure that the patients comfort and dignity is respected at all times. Assist in the movement of patients to ensure maximum comfort and safety at all times. Assist in maintaining specialised endoscopic equipment in good working order, identify any faults in the equipment and report to the Registered Nurse. Assist in ensuring that the department area is kept clean and tidy, e.g. participating in general housekeeping, adhering guidelines in the disposal of dirty linen etc in accordance with UHB Policies.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic HCSW into a Band 3 role within Endoscopy. Endoscopy is a fast moving sometimes unpredictable environment, allowing individuals to progress and gain competencies within this specialised area. 

The unit is progressive, providing both upper and lower GI as well as Bronchoscopy services, together with a Bowel screening programme service.

Training will  be provided, allowing the right individual to develop required  both specific patient care and non patient skills regarding maintenance and care of specialised endoscopes and equipment.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Educatiuon/Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • Good literacy & Numeracy skills
  • Evidence of engagement with personal and professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Previous experience working in endoscopy unit
  • Experience with audit process including understanding GRS and JAG
  • Working to list demands and being able to prioritise accordingly
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience with endoscopes

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good intrerpersonal and communicatrion skills
  • Excellent customer care
  • Analytical skills with accurate data input
  • Good IT and Keyboard skills
  • Welsh language skills in Speaking/Listening at Level 3 or above
Desirable criteria
  • IV cannulation and venepuncture
