Job overview

The Point of Care Testing (POCT) Department at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to support and maintain the Health Board’s POCT service. The applicant should have NHS experience and a scientific background.

Working under the direct supervision of the POCT Coordinator, the POCT Practitioner will assist in implementing the Health Board’s POCT Policy and governance protocols. The role involves supporting service users across both primary and secondary care to ensure compliance with national and local standards for POCT equipment use. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the confidence to deliver training to service users.

Based at Royal Glamorgan Hospital, the post offers the opportunity to work across multiple sites within the Health Board, so the ability to travel within the geography of the organisation in a timely fashion is essential.

Main duties of the job

The POCT Practitioner will assist service users in primary and secondary care to meet national and local standards for the use of POCT equipment. Key responsibilities include supporting staff with training and competency assessments, e-learning, IT and software support, Standard Operating Procedures, audits, stock management, and contributing to accreditation processes.

The role requires proficiency in using POCT devices and overseeing their operation in clinical settings. This includes ensuring adherence to Standard Operating Procedures, maintaining devices in line with Health Board policies, performing Quality Control and Quality Assurance, and providing appropriate training and assessments for users.

The post holder will work independently within established procedures, with the supervisor available when needed. To provide POCT support to community-based services, the ability to travel within the geography of the organisation in a timely fashion is essential.
