Would you like to bring your skills to our supportive, innovative, high achieving Weight Management Service and Diabetes Dietetic team at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board?

This is an exiting opportunity to undertake an operational management role; overseeing a range of new and existing projects to improve the lives of people living with Obesity and Diabetes.  It is open to Allied Health Professionals (HCPC registered) and Nursing professionals (NMC registered).

Developing service proposals, financial and budget monitoring skills are essential in this fast paced working environment and expanding area of dietetics.

You will lead and manage the day to day operations of a designated Weight Management and Dietetic Diabetes service across the 3 localities in the Health Board; Merthyr & Cynon, Rhondda Taf Ely and Bridgend. The post holder will work closely with the Deputy Head of Dietetics as well as the wider Dietetic Management Team, public health and finance colleagues as well as a range of other stakeholders. You will ensure that your team supports and delivers a quality and outcome focussed dietetic service for the health board population needs, against the achievement of performance and financial targets.

You will have a  strategic role in supporting the  dietetic  service developments.

The post is based in Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda but the post supports a health board wide service and there is opportunities for working from home.  

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for day-to-day operational and strategic management of tier 2 and 3 adult clinical weight management and adult structured diabetes education services to ensure a safe, effective and accessible service is available for the population of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

To work in partnership with secondary care services, primary care services, local authority and public health to evaluate the service in line with local and national performance measures.

Empower and support staff to actively improve themselves and the specialist area of the service within their scope of practice and responsibility. 

Manage staff to provide support and to ensure that the delivery of adult weight management services meets the needs of the client groups and the organisation.

Co-ordinate interventions that may include other disciplines; advises and educates patient/carers/relatives/other health professionals/agencies.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Degree/diploma in profession
  • MSc or its equivalent level of knowledge and advanced post graduate training/experience in specialist clinical area.
  • Management qualification or evidence of management development e.g. leadership / coaching / mentoring Evidence of clinical supervision.
  • Evidence of or qualification and knowledge in research and audit.
  • Professional registration with associated body.
  • Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice.
  • Detailed specialist clinical knowledge of weight management practices.
  • Behaviour modification training or motivational interviewing training and or skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Member specialist interest group associated with weight management/behavioural change.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical experience at a senior level across a variety of settings.
  • Experience of working as a senior member of a clinical team to deliver patient and organisational objectives. Experience of working with partners external to health including professional organisations.
  • Experience of developing clinical and professional standards and policies. Practical experience of human resource management, supervision and mentoring.
  • Presentation skills and ability to work effectively single handed with individuals and groups
  • Experience at managing projects.
  • Experience at evaluating services and collating reports to update stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of health and safety.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with multi-disciplinary weight management services
  • Experience in operational management/ leadership.
  • Practical experience of lecturing/teaching/ presentations to large groups or at conferences

Aptitude Abilities and skills

Essential criteria
  • Resource management skills.
  • Ability to motivate and lead others
  • An ability to communicate complex information to NHS colleagues and partners in external organisations at a national and international level.
  • Skills in influencing and persuasion on specialist clinical issues with a wide range of staff and internal and external to the Health Board.
  • Advanced keyboard skills – data inputting, word processing, internet and dietary analysis.
  • Able to deal appropriately with distressed patients and staff.
Desirable criteria
  • Welsh Language Speaking/Listening skills at Level 3 or above
