Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic individual to lead the Plain Film services at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.

The successful candidate will possess strong clinical, leadership and teaching skills to ensure a first-class patient centred service. Specialist knowledge of the plain film service and an innovative approach to service delivery is required to support the development and delivery of high quality services across Radiology, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

You will be based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital but will be expected to have a flexible approach within your role and to work in partnership with the General Superintendent Radiographer at Prince Charles Hospital and the Princess of Wales hospital to ensure standardisation of working practices.

The General X-ray Department at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital has 5 static rooms to include 4 Samsung GC85 DR rooms. Work is currently being undertaken to install new dental imaging and processing equipment. There are three Ziehm image intensifiers and three Samsung GC85 DR mobile units on site

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board hosts the National Imaging Academy Wales which provides us with excellent future development opportunities for our staff. We actively support monthly internal CPD meetings, regularly support external training for staff and we are keen to develop you professionally.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for the operational management of the General X-ray Department in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital and will be responsible for the organisation of the departments’ workload delegating work on a daily basis.

You will have a lead clinical role, acting as the main contact for any issues regarding the Plain Film Imaging service being responsible for training new staff and ensuring the team adhere to the Organisation’s Policies and Procedures, Local Rules and I(R(ME)R updating Duty Holder Entitlements as necessary.

You will be responsible for the management of staff Personal Development reviews and absence management in line with Policy.

You will be responsible for ensuring equipment used within the General Department is maintained in line with manufacturers guidance and that faults are reported in a timely manner to reduce downtime of equipment.

You will be responsible for the ongoing formulation and implementation of major changes to the service utilising highly developed clinical knowledge and communications skills.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Radiography or equivalent
  • Post graduate qualification or equivalent experience
  • Significant & highly developed radiographic knowledge, experience and qualifications
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and radiation safety policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Audit and Clinical Governance
  • HCPC registration

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant history of Continuing Professional Development
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Previous history of staff teaching, mentoring and supervision
  • Relevant management experience to include recruitment and retention of staff, sickness management
  • Previous experience of staff appraisal and training needs analysis

  • Demonstrate Leadership skills.Ability to lead, direct and support a team
  • Good communication skills- ability to liaise competently with stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills and ability to work well under pressure
  • Dedicated and open to flexibility within the post. Keen to progress professionally
Desirable criteria
  • Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above
