Job overview

We're looking for a dynamic, passionate and enthusiastic  individual with experience of  managing respiratory conditions and a background in rehabilitation to lead the physiotherapy aspects of the Respiratory out-patient and newly funded Pulmonary Rehabilitation service within the Rhondda Cynon Taff and Merthyr area of CTMUHB.  The post holder will need to have a flexible approach, enjoying a variety of responsibilities, traveling to community sites, keen to network across Respiratory services  locally and nationally, as well as across other long term condition rehabilitation specialist services within CTMUHB .  Within the physiotherapy  and Respiratory  teams there are service development and improvement opportunities, as well as opportunities to support professional development within the clinical specialism.   The post holder will benefit from being based within the physiotherapy department as well as working in the multi-disciplinary pulmonary rehabilitation team.   Within the team you will be responsible for the physical activity aspects, supporting junior members of staff and students.  

The post is suited to a Physiotherapist passionate about the role of rehabilitation with experience of promoting self-management.    As a department we are supportive of flexible working to meet service needs.    

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the physiotherapy aspects of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation service and a community out-patient respiratory service, providing holistic support to patients with chronic respiratory conditions.  Clinicians involved in Pulmonary Rehabilitation need to have a passion for preventative care, health promotion and self management in supporting patients to regain physical function and  confidence in their long term management of their condition.  

You will need to be organised to meet the demands of working on different sites, you will need be a team player, respectful of the professions you are working alongside.  The post requires you to be professionally confident, willing to learn and develop and be an expert resource, supporting the group physical rehabilitation and education aspects of Pulmonary Rehabilitation as well as supporting the learning of those in your team and the wider rehabilitation teams.   

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy.
  • HCPC Registration
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent level of specialist knowledge and experience.
  • Evidence of relevant, specialised post graduate courses.
  • Knowledge of appropriate clinical guidelines – Local and National
  • Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of leadership training.
  • Membership of relevant specialist interest group.
  • Teaching qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive postgraduate clinical experience ideally including
  • Inpatient/out-patient respiratory & cardio-thoracic physiotherapy at Band 6 level.
  • Experience of audit/ research (clinical and organisational).
  • Experience of formal and informal teaching.
  • Experience of working within healthcare systems.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working alongside Respirtaory Consultants or similar.
  • Participation in/ organisation of workshops, seminars, conferences, courses, benchmarking
  • Experience of teaching at post graduate level.

Aptitude and Abilities Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, nonverbal and written).
  • Ability to use highly specialised clinical reasoning skills independent of other Practitioners, in an expert area of practice.
  • Advanced assessment skills.
  • The physical ability to perform and cope with all aspects of manual handling, equipment and advanced manual treatment techniques.
  • Experience of and Ability to work efficiently and effectively within a team environment.
  • Coaching/mentoring & MI/ presentation/instructing/ class taking skills.
  • Good IT skills.
