Job overview

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic leader to fill the role of General Superintendent at Nevill Hall hospital.
This post is full time permanent contract based at Nevill Hall hospital, Abergavenny, with a requirement to work across other Aneurin Bevan sites as required.

The  General Superintendent will operationally lead the X-ray service at Nevill Hall and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr and assist colleagues in the operational management of the X-ray service on other Aneurin Bevan sites.  This will involve managing staff and equipment.  They will lead the X-ray service and provide guidance to staff working within it; have an expert knowledge, understanding and interest in General X-ray.

The General X-ray Superintendent will be required to work with the radiology senior management team and key stakeholders to deliver a high quality X-ray service.  Manage, co-ordinate and when required, participate in the provision of the X-ray service across Aneurin Bevan.
The post holder will be responsible for contributing to compliance with the Welsh Government targets of Referral-to-Treatment Time and Single Cancer Pathway.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • To manage a team to support service development and ensure the provision of the General X-ray service.
  • To manage change within the General X-ray staff as required by service development, enabling good operational management and ensuring targets are met.
  • To comply with performance related monitoring, participating in regular audits and reviews within General X-ray and have the ability to assess the demands on the service and ensure excellent patient care.
  • To provide performance data as required and ensure an effective working level.
  • To provide leadership and support to General X-ray staff.
  • To communicate with and reassure patients including those who may be distressed, uncooperative or have learning difficulties, in order to gain their cooperation.
  • To possess and maintain an expert knowledge of the current General X-ray examinations being carried out and being responsible for all equipment used in these areas.
