Aneurin Bevan University Health Board offers an exciting development opportunity to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic Secretarial team as a Support Secretary.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join us within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department, Nevill Hall Hospital. The successful candidate would be expected to demonstrate excellent organisational skills, be flexible to the needs of the service and able to demonstrate a commitment to achieving high standards of work. Knowledge of hospital systems would be beneficial although full training will be given to the successful candidate.
This post is fixed term/secondment for 6 months 1/4/2026 - 1/10/2026 to cover maternity leave. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.
The hours of work will be between 09.00 and 17.00.
Main duties of the job
To provide secretarial support to consultants and teams and the provision of general support throughout the department as and when necessary, during periods of sickness and annual leave.
The typing of correspondence, clinic letters for both elective, fracture and WLI patients accurately and within time limits set by departmental standards.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

- Knowledge of secretarial procedures and systems, the majority of which are non-routine, acquired through training and experience to Vocational Level 3 or equivalent
- Computer literate with excellent Word processing/keyboard skills.
- Excellent communication skills and good organisation skills.
Desirable criteria
- Studying toward Medical Secretarial Qualification.
- Experience of working in a hospital environment.
