PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT – Biochemistry
Higher Medical Laboratory Assistant -Band 3. The post is a permanent contract of 27.5 hours per week.
A vacancy has arisen in the Blood Sciences department of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board for a Higher Healthcare Support Worker to join our Biochemistry team. The successful candidate will be working fixed days which will be:
- Monday 09:00 - 18:00
- Thursday 09:00 - 19:00
- Friday 09:00 - 19:00
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic Higher Healthcare Support Worker with a flexible approach to work. The post will be based primarily in the new Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran. The successful candidate may be required to rotate to the other sites within the Health Board; the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport and Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny.
New biochemistry automation was commissioned in July 2021 in the purpose built, modern Blood Sciences laboratory at the Grange University Hospital, with the aim to deliver high quality Biochemistry services.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be based in the Biochemistry Department but will be expected to undertake duties in any area of the department where there are a wide variety of tasks associated with the testing of patient samples. These include the registration of patient and test details on a computer system, the sorting and labelling of patient samples and request forms, and basic procedures relating to the testing process such as sample preparation, operating and maintaining analysers, stock control, reagent management. Full training will be provided for these and for other duties that may be included although previous experience may be beneficial. Computer/typing related qualifications will be an advantage, as will an enthusiastic approach and any relevant experience.
