Based at Grange University Hospital (GUH), Cwmbran, SE Wales

Do you want to want to develop your skills in Emergency Medicine & Pre-Hospital Care? Do you want to gain more experience before embarking on a Consultant career?  Do you want to work in a brand-new purpose-built critical care centre?  Do you have interests in other areas aligned to Community Emergency Medicine which you would like to develop?  Are you an enthusiastic, hard-working, willing to learn team player?  Do you want to work in a beautiful part of the world as part of team that values work life balance?  Answered yes to all these questions a Post-CCT Fellow in Emergency Medicine & PHEM in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board could be just right for you.

Main duties of the job

This unique post spends approximately 50% of the clinical time in PHEM/Community Emergency Medicine (CEM) roles working with the well-established Physician Response Unit and gaining experience in pre-hospital critical care with EMRTS Wales on the Wales Air Ambulance.

The Physician Response Unit has been running since 2015 and is an award-winning collaboration with the Welsh ambulance service.  Its focus is to bring the ED to the patient's home by self-tasking senior decision makers to 999 calls which may be suitable for management in the community.  The PRU also responds to RED calls as part of the local 999 response and works collaboratively with the other local community services.  The current PHEM fellows are heavily involved in service development and quality improvement, and this would be an integral role for future recruits.

The other 50% of the clinical time is working in the Emergency Department at The Grange University Hospital.

The job plan can be adjusted by mutual agreement but would provisionally reflect a Consultant job plan, with 70% of programmed activities being clinical and 30% Supporting Professional Activities. Thus, ensuring a suitable clinical and managerial experience for those about to embark upon a Consultant career.
