Are you practical, motivated, and keen to develop your skills in a busy healthcare engineering environment?

We are seeking a dedicated Engineering Maintenance Assistant to join our Estates & Facilities team and play a vital role in maintaining safe, efficient hospital environments for patients, staff, and visitors.

As an Engineering Maintenance Assistant, you will support the maintenance and estates team in the operation, repair and upkeep of NHS buildings, facilities and equipment. You will work across a large and varied healthcare estate, carrying out both supervised and unsupervised maintenance tasks while developing your knowledge and technical skills.

Main duties of the job

Your duties will include:

  • Assisting skilled tradespeople and carrying out routine and non‑routine maintenance.
  • Responding to breakdowns and performing basic fault‑finding on engineering plant and systems.
  • Using a range of communication and technical tools, including pagers, technical drawings, test equipment, and building management systems.
  • Ensuring safe working practices, including adherence to COSHH, method statements, and risk assessments.
  • Performing portable appliance testing after suitable training.
  • Maintaining accurate work records and reporting issues promptly.
  • Supporting colleagues, new starters and, when required, contractors.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 or relevant recognised demonstrable competency at this level
  • Trained in Health & Safety Awareness
  • First Aid
  • Asbestos Awareness
  • Manual Handling
  • Will be expected to undertake relevant training to facilitate the safe and effective delivery of maintenance tasks.
Desirable criteria
  • Personal Safety
  • Confined Spaces

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of general building services
  • Appropriate work experience within the field of building services engineering
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in a maintenance role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience of undertaking PPM checks and following up on actions

Skills and Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Customer care awareness
  • Able to contribute in a team environment.
  • Ability to undertake other duties within areas of competence – check against core competencies in PADR.
  • Physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
