Job overview
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Junior Clinical Fellow in Neonates at The Grange University Hospital (GUH) in Cwmbran, South-East Wales. This new state of the art hospital opened in November 2020 providing first class facilities for the Health Board’s population.
The Neonatal Unit at GUH is a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with 8 Intensive Care, 10 High Dependency and 12 Special Care cots. It caters for 6,500 deliveries across Gwent and has over 1500 intensive care days annually. Babies of all gestations are looked after here apart from surgical and cardiac babies, which are referred either to the University Hospital of Wales, with whom we have close links, or Bristol.
The unit is staffed by 11 WTE Neonatal Consultants and 1 Associate Specialist for daytime cover and out of hours on call. The workload is European Work-time Directive and New Deal compliant.
“These are the current applicable pay scales; however, these may change upon implementation of the framework agreement for reform to the terms and conditions of service for resident doctors and dentists in Wales. Further details can be found at BMA+-+Framework+Agreement+Wales.”
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will work on the tier 1 rota covering the neonatal intensive care environment. You will gain a very wide experience in neonatal medicine including neonatal resuscitation, care of the normal neonate, common postnatal problems and all aspects of neonatal intensive care including ventilation, HFOV, therapeutic hypothermia for HIE and practical procedures.
The Neonatal Unit offers a very active and exciting post-graduate teaching programme and you will be expected to participate in audits, reviews, journal club presentations, X ray meetings and teaching. You will be allocated an educational supervisor and your personal development encouraged. We have a progressive post-graduate department and an excellent post-graduate medical library service within the hospital.
