Job overview

Band 4 Ward A0- This role will bridge between HCSWs and the Registered Nurse (RN), within the discipline of nursing.

The role will provide support to the RN by caring for patients, enhancing the quality of hands on care.

The post holder will provide high level support in the provision of quality interventions to meet the needs of patients requiring nursing and clinical care, as an RN assistant.

To provide clinical support to implement planned care to patients under the indirect supervision of Registered Nurses.

To work within a designated team but with the ability to work independently as required.

To demonstrate an awareness of the limits of personal professional practice and knowledge and recognise when to seek appropriate support/advice

To carry out nursing care, e.g. clinical observations, wound care and point of care testing.

To undertake clinical tasks e.g. cannulation, venepuncture, ECG, wound care.

To supervise Band 2 & Band 3 Healthcare Support Workers, delegating care as appropriate.

To participate in case conferences and case review meetings.

To keep clear, accurate, contemporaneous patient records of the care provided and its impact.

Main duties of the job

If you are a highly experienced health care support worker with a level 4 qualification, looking for an opportunity to secure promotion and work within a dynamic and forward thinking team, with a passion for patient care, then an Assistant Practitioner role could be for you.

This is a innovative role which will be a key part of the ward team providing essential support to Registered Nurses and delivering direct patient care through enhanced skills. You will also supervise HCSW’s at Band 2 & 3.

You will be a pivotal member of a multidisciplinary team, providing high quality care to patients in our ward settings. You will support the nurses by providing clinical nursing support and enhancing the quality of hands on care. You will work without direct supervision and with delegated responsibilities from the Registered Nurse. 

You will be caring, compassionate, enthusiastic, dedicated and competent at Level 4.

Based at the Grange Hospital University in Cwmbran, there are openings on our Trauma & Orthopaedics Ward, A0. The role will be complimented by a robust support network and a competency framework with the opportunity for developing new skills.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
