Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and innovative pharmacist to join our clinical team, as the Cardiology Directorate Pharmacist. This post is based at the Grange University Hospital (GUH), a Specialist and Critical Care Centre, treating our most seriously ill patients. Excellent clinical, organisational and leadership skills are vital for this role, and you will be an integral part of the team of Medical Directorate Pharmacists at GUH.

This extremely rewarding role will require an individual with a broad-based clinic knowledge with experience of working within a specialist clinical environment. Collaborative working with the Cardiology Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) will be a key aspect, forging robust working relations in order to advance the delivery of pharmaceutical care.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Lead Pharmacist Medicine at GUH, to deliver a robust and patient-centred pharmacy service within the Medicine Division.
This post is full-time, 37.5hrs per week and would encourage an informal visit to discuss the post.
Main duties of the job

Delivery of specialist pharmacy services within GUH, by working as part of the team of Medicine Directorate Pharmacists.

Working closely with the Cardiology MDT, attending ward rounds to deliver clinical pharmacy services to this specialist area.

Working alongside the MDT to manage Cardiology medicines expenditure, and horizon scanning for new and economically beneficial treatment options.

Working with medical and nursing colleagues to develop medicines policies and guidelines that promote evidence based and economical prescribing, embedding national strategies into clinical practice.

Strong teamwork and communication skills are vital for this role, and the post holder will work alongside pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants to deliver a patient-focused pharmacy service.

Delivery of education and training to pharmacist trainees, junior pharmacists and multidisciplinary colleagues; focusing on developments in pharmaceutical care within Cardiology.

Collaborative working with pharmacy colleagues across all sites to maintain continuity of care for patients, and enhance working practices.

This post may be offered under Annex 21 of the NHS Terms and Conditions of Service. Annex 21 applies where a candidate does not yet meet the full requirements of the role but can be appointed as a trainee and offered a structured training programme to allow development to the required standard. During the training period, salary will be paid as a percentage of the fully qualified rate in accordance with Annex 21 provisions. Upon successful completion of training and attainment of required competencies, the post holder will move to the appropriate spine point of the full pay band for the role.
