Job overview
We are looking for a Locum Consultant in stroke medicine to provide, with consultant colleagues (as appropriate), a service in Stroke Medicine, supporting the development of stroke services so designated with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness.
The job plan will comprise a rotational pattern consisting of two weeks at The Grange University Hospital working on the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU), followed by six weeks at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Hospital within the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit.
This rotation will operate on a continuous, repeating cycle, with the successful candidate returning to a further two‑week period on HASU after completing each six‑week block at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Hospital.
The appointee will participate in a 1:8 weekend cover and commitments include an acute stroke unit ward round. The weekend commitment will be compensated with time off during the following weekdays.
The out of hours on-call rota for Stroke Thrombolysis is 1:8 and on-call will be non-resident. The stroke team or the medical registrar will deliver the Thrombolysis, usually after telephone consultation with the on-call consultant. The appointee will be provided with the facility to review the CT head scan images at home which is supported by an AI imaging system.

· Experience and knowledge of running a stroke service
· Generic skills in multidisciplinary assessment and rehabilitation
· Leadership and team building skills as well as working as part of a multidisciplinary team
· Supporting and training multidisciplinary teams
· Providing persuasive strategic advice to the Departments and Directorate
· Participating in CPD including Audit
· A Teaching and Training Role for medical undergraduates and postgraduates
· Educational Supervisor role to Junior and Middle Grade Medical Staff
· To undertake regular multidisciplinary clinical audit and provide evidence-based medicine
