Job overview

We are looking for highly motivated Registered Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner to join our expanding Recovery Team at the new Specialist and Critical Care Centre. 

The Grange University Hospital will provide a centre of excellence in Gwent to treat the most seriously ill patients or those with significant injuries.

Main duties of the job

The theatre department provides a 7 day 24 hour service, with the requirement to work occasional weekends, nights and support other theatre departments within ABUHB.  The department will undertake both emergency and elective procedures, covering General Surgery, ENT, Vascular, Obstetrics, Max Fax, Gynaecology, CEPOD and Trauma.

Newly appointed candidates will undertake a comprehensive training programme supported by our designated theatre Practice Educator.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and / or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) NMC Registered OR Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) HCPC registered
  • Knowledge of the Recovery area
  • Evidence of professional development that at least meets the minimum requirement of the post holder's professional body
  • Mentorship qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Degree level education or a willingness to work towards

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working within a hospital setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience working in a critical care environment, theatre department or post-operative surgical setting

Other

Essential criteria
  • Ability to travel within geographical area to rotate between various sites within the ABUHB if required
  • Able to work hours Monday to Friday working 9 hours shifts.
Desirable criteria
  • Satisfactory Standard/Enhanced DBS clearance including an/a Adults and Children’s Barred List check (delete as appropriate)
