Job overview

Would you like to contribute to a multitude of Public Health projects covering topics such as nicotine use, giving children the best start in life and warmer home initiatives? Do you enjoy scrutinising data and generating ideas for data quality improvement? Is report building and generating insights for action something that interests you? This is an exciting opportunity to join the Research and Intelligence team as Public Health Intelligence Analyst within the Gwent Public Health Team. This is a key role in supporting our ambition to promote health equality and equity in Gwent by producing intelligence to inform evidence-based decision-making. 

Main duties of the job

This role embodies the full data and intelligence cycle: gathering data, cleansing data, transformation of data and creating outputs which help tell the story of Gwent. Sourcing new data flows for our data warehouse, maintaining existing data flows, routine reporting, and ad hoc requests are important tasks within this role. A keen eye for process improvement and ideas for data quality improvement solutions are central to all tasks. Supporting important projects such as the development of a Population Management Approach within Gwent. Giving data and intelligence a voice by sharing insights across the team and with system partners aligned to priority workstreams.  

 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • The post holder will be qualified to Degree level or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience, specifically in a technical discipline such as data analytics, data science, mathematics, computer science, or similar.
  • Specialist knowledge of information requirements and standards within a healthcare /social care environment to post graduate diploma level or equivalent relevant experience
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the current health system within Gwent, the aims and aspirations of the Health Board and current national health policy
  • Evidence of further development, education, work experience, or training
Desirable criteria
  • Equality and Diversity – knowledge and understanding of equality and diversity issues and how personally can make a positive difference to this agenda
  • An understanding of the impact of data gaps on health inequalities and equity

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of data analysis
  • Proficient in the preparation and manipulation of data
  • Use of Excel/SQL/Power BI/Canva and/or other analytical tools
  • Experience of collating information, communicating analysis and preparing reports
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in project management, including needs assessment, monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience of working in public health and / or health services planning within the public sector
  • Experience of collaborative working across commissioning and provider organisations
  • Experience and understanding of evaluating and measuring the performance of health services
  • Experience of working with a diverse range of datasets
