Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced dietitian to expand their knowledge and skills in paediatrics. This post will be a split post working in both home enteral feeding and with the acute paediatric team in the Grange University hospital.
The post holder will have already attained a sound knowledge and understanding of either general paediatric dietetics or other specialities within dietetics. Paediatric experience is desirable but not essential as training and supervision will be provided. CPD opportunities will be provided including shadowing other specialities and relevant BDA modules.
The Aneurin Bevan paediatric team is a dynamic, highly specialised team of dietitians and supported by dedicated paediatric support workers and admin support.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have the opportunity to work in a range of locations across Aneurin Bevan including the Grange University Hospital and Serennu Children’s centre. They will work with the acute team covering the children’s wards and neonatal unit as well as manage a case load of home enteral feeding patients. They will be responsible for a general paediatric dietetic outpatient clinic and will have the opportunity to deliver group education to families.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical duties will include:
- Assessments of children and young people admitted to the children's ward including patients with conditions such as faltering growth, enterally feeding, eating disorders, iron deficiency anaemia, neurodisability, multiple allergies, Inflammatory bowel disesase, cystic fibrosis and inherited metabolic conditions
- Delivering ward training sessions
- Assessments of growth and nutritional needs and modifications of feeding regimes to meet requirements
- Joint home visits/assessments with speech and language therapy colleagues and home enteral feeding nurses to children with complex needs
- Supporting families with the provision of blended diet in the home and school environment
- Liaising with schools and education to support a child’s nutritional needs in school
- Working alongside a wider MDT team to meet a child’s needs
- Provision of a regular general paediatric dietetic outpatient clinic
- Provision of a regular clinic for children with complex and specialist needs
- As required involvement in complex care and safeguarding issues- with support as required
The postholder needs to be enthusiastic and passionate about paediatric dietetics and demonstrate that they are keen to learn and are able to work independently when required but also recognise their scope of practice and need to seek further advice and supervision.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Dietetics degree or Post graduate diploma or masters in Dietetics
- HCPC registration as a dietitian
Desirable criteria
- Completion of masters level paediatric dietetic training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of a strong interest in paediatric dietetics
- Passionate and enthusiastic about paediatric dietetics
Desirable criteria
- Experience of managing paediatric patients
