Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic thinker to support our local day control and planning of patient journeys .  The role involves effectively planning patient journeys to and from home  / health care setting using our cleric system and against set key performance indicators.


Our patients have varying clinical and mobility needs, some of our patients travel regularly with us into renal and oncology units. Our patients and staff are our priority, ensuring we show care, compassion and empathy. 


You will need a calm approach under pressure, have geographical knowledge of working areas.  Customer service skills are also key as you will be liaising with patients, clinics and our staff, keeping calm under pressure and following the Trust's vision and values.

Main duties of the job

The PTS Day Controller/Planner is responsible for the coordination of Patient Transport Services resources, ensuring the effective planning, control, and forward planning of patient transport.

 The role involves liaising with ambulance crews, volunteer car drivers, private ambulance services, hospitals/clinics, patients, and other relevant agencies to provide a high-quality and efficient service.

 To monitor and rearrange journeys to support the service and patient experience.

 Recording of journey times accurately and in timely manner, answering incoming calls professionally and effectively, escalating actions in line with local guidance.

Professionally and effectively handle incoming calls, providing information, support, and solutions where needed.

Ability to remain composed, focused, and efficient in high-pressure situations, ensuring Patient Transport Services runs smoothly despite unexpected challenges
