Job overview

Joining the Learning Disability Intensive Support Service will allow you to truly make a difference in people's lives, using you skills to enhance life opportunities and ensure people live life well in the community. As a newly created post the successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop the role to fit the needs of the service.
This post covers the geographical area of Norfolk and Waveney.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be part of an MDT, working together to ensure individuals in the community remain appropriately supported throughout a range of challenges. You will manage your own caseload, also communicating with the SLTs in the community LD teams to allow for seamless transitions between the teams.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To be an active member of the integrated multi-disciplinary intensive support community team for people with learning disabilities.
To be responsible for a caseload of clients with complex needs, using evidence based/person centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
To provide clinical supervision and clinical leadership to other SLT staff as required.
To be part of the planning, development and evaluation of Specialist SLT services across the county to help ensure the consistency of high quality and efficient clinical services.
To deliver services in line with the appropriate clinical pathways/specification requirements.
To provide practice placements for SLT students, as required

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Attainment of relevant qualifications in Speech and Language Therapy as recognised by RCLST and HCPC or equivalent.
- • Registered member of RCLST and HCPC
- • Completion of RCSLT Newly Qualified Practitioner Competencies
Desirable criteria
- Completion of basic dysphagia training e.g. Inter professional dysphagia framework at the level of specialist dysphagia practitioner or IASLT entry level
Experience
Essential criteria
- Clinical experience as a Speech and Language Therapist
- Undergraduate clinical experience in adult acquired communication and swallowing disorders
Desirable criteria
- Post-graduate clinical experience working within neurology/stroke care independently managing communication and swallowing disorders
- Case load management experience*
- Experience/observation of dysphagia, Video fluoroscopy, Fibre optic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallow at undergraduate or post graduate level
- Experience in working within a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of participating in research and/or audit projects
- Experience of voluntary or paid work with a relevant organisation or patient group.
- Experience in the supervision of Rehabilitation Assistants (or equivalent)

- • Basic knowledge of acquired communication disorders and dysphagia, their assessment, therapeutic interventions and management approaches
- • Able to develop the confidence to work independently and recognise when to seek advice

- • Good communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
- • Able to work within an interdisciplinary team
Desirable criteria
- Ability to independently manage a caseload of patients with communication and swallowing disorders
- Ability to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both individually and in a team
- Evidence of own development through appraisal
- Membership of relevant Clinical Excellent Networks/ Special Interests Groups
- Special interest in stroke rehabilitation
- Knowledge and application of national guidelines for stroke and relevant standards and outcome measures
- Ability to organise workload and manage time effectively
- Ability to evaluate research evidence and apply relevant outcome measures
