Main duties of the job

This is an exciting time to join our Gynaecology, Breast Care Services and Private Patient Teams.  We are leading the way with award winning innovations that support professional practice and nursing workforce developments, the James Paget University Hospital has a legacy of exceptional achievements. 

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced leader to join our well established team of Matrons within the Division of Surgery and Women's & Children's Services . You will support the Gynaecology, Breast Care Services and Private Patient Teams in the delivery of excellent, compassionate care whilst maintaining high professional standards. 

We are looking for leaders who are not only ambitious, creative and focused, but individuals with sound clinical expertise and a passion for providing outstanding care every time for our patients & outstanding support for our staff.

You will work in collaboration with the speciality triumvirate to provide assurance of quality and safety for our patients and lead the team to deliver improvements and innovations in practice. 

Candidates must be a Registered Nurse  and have experience in an acute hospital setting.

You will be a part of the Divisional leadership team, and work within a triumvirate of Operational Manager and Clinical Lead.

Person specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent measurable level of experience within a governance setting
  • Certificate in Management or equivalent
  • ENB 998 or equivalent (clinical post only)
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership course
  • Masters or working towards
  • Registered clinical professional

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience at Band 6 level or equivalent measurable relevant experience within a healthcare governance setting
  • Working knowledge and experience of using MS Office packages - Word, Excel and PowerPoint including data collection and input
Desirable criteria
  • Previous Band 7 experience
  • Experience in change management projects
  • Experience in managing and/or coordinating governance activities

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Broad knowledge of patient care standards
  • Knowledge of External Assurance Requirements e.g. CQC
  • Fundamental Standards
  • Excellent communication skills
