Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Clinical Psychologist to provide specialist expertise and input within the Older Peoples Services based at Northgate Hospital, Great Yarmouth and Carlton Court Hospital, Carlton Colville.  The service consists of a Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) and a Memory Assessment and Treatment service (MATs) in Great Yarmouth.  We have a sister service based at Carlton Court, Carlton Colville and it is envisaged that the post holder will also provide psychological services for the Inreach / Outreach Service based there.

In addition to clinical duties a significant part of the role will be providing training, support & supervision to other professionals and services.  The successful candidate will also provide consultation for the Inreach / Outreach Service at Carlton Court, which uses the Newcastle model to support people with dementia living in care homes who are presenting with emotional distress.  The post holder will work closely with a Consultant Clinical Psychologist who will offer supervision, consultation and direction. There is a very active and supportive Older Peoples Psychology group that meet every six weeks and there is an Older Peoples Forum open to all Older People staff which is held every other month. This forum is designed to share good practice and innovations as well as discussing lessons learnt from serious untoward incidents and complaints.

Main duties of the job

Our Community Older People services have been rated consistently as ‘Good’ by CQC and we endeavour to work towards achieving ‘Outstanding’ status. We are currently pursuing MSNAP accreditation for our MATs service and once this has been achieved, we will be pursuing similar accreditation of our CMHT. As a service we are passionate about participation, and we are in the process of recruiting service users and carers to join our local participation forum. We are also developing our group offering with the help of service users and carers. In the future groups will be co-produced and co-facilitated.

Within your role you will be expected to provide:

  • Clinical leadership and specialist consultation, particularly around the needs of older adults and people of all ages with a suspected or confirmed diagnosis of dementia.
  • Expert assessment, formulation and intervention, including neuropsychological assessment.
  • Promotion of a psychologically informed culture through use of consultancy, supervision, training, and team formulations.
  • Provision of specialist assessments to aid formulation and treatment planning.
  • Consultation to the Inreach / Outreach team using the Newcastle model of unmet needs.
  • Support in developing quality improvement, audit and research projects.

There will be the opportunity for training and development as part of the role and the post is funded as 1.0 wte. However, fewer hours can be considered.
