We are seeking a substantive Clinical Psychologist to join our Learning Disability and Autism (LD&A) services. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to two closely connected specialist teams: our Inpatient Assessment and Treatment Unit and the Learning Disability Intensive Support Team. Your role will help ensure continuity and high‑quality psychological support across both inpatient and community settings.
You will be part of a friendly, motivated multidisciplinary team committed to delivering person‑centred care for individuals with complex needs. Working across both services offers the chance to develop a rich, varied clinical portfolio and to collaborate with colleagues who are passionate about improving outcomes for the people we support.

Main duties of the job
The postholder will work across both the Learning Disability & Autism (LD&A) Assessment and Treatment Unit and the Learning Disability Intensive Support Team, contributing psychological expertise across inpatient and community environments. You will be part of an innovative, multidisciplinary team delivering high‑quality, person‑centred interventions that support individuals with complex needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention for people with learning disabilities and additional mental health, behavioural, or neurodevelopmental needs, delivered across both inpatient and community settings.
- Working as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to offer psychologically‑informed perspectives that shape care planning, risk management, and positive behaviour support.
- Developing, delivering, and evaluating interventions, including opportunities to design and facilitate group‑based work tailored to service user needs.
- Providing staff training and consultation, both within the services and to external teams as appropriate, to build psychologically‑informed practice across the wider system.
This post would suit a qualified Clinical Psychologist with an interest in working with individuals with complex needs, including those with behaviours that challenge, mental health difficulties, or autism. A passion for service development and integrated inpatient–community working is essential.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology, or its equivalent, including eligibility for chartered status with the BPS
- Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health and care Professions Council (HCPC)
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist and evidence of specialist knowledge gained through practice and ongoing training.
- Specialist complex psychological assessment and treatment of people with a wide range of mental health problems, of varying severity and complexity.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of clinical work in a setting relevant to the post.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Assessment, evaluation and management of risk associated with mental ill health and related psychopathology.
