Job overview
A rare opportunity has arisen for a passionate, dedicated, enthusiastic and innovative individual, who may already be in a Band 7 position or is a Band 6 with a desire for progression, to become the next Senior Sister/ Charge Nurse of Mattishall Ward.
Mattishall Ward is a 38 bed Endocrinology & Diabetes Specialist ward, plus General Medicine, under the direct management of the Matron & Service Director for Endocrinology, and leadership of Care Group H Triumvirate.
You will work closely with the Matron, Service Director, and Nursing Team to provide a safe environment where patients receive quality care to the standards required to achieve Gold Ward Accreditation.
Main duties of the job
The Ward/Department Manager will lead and work as part of the Ward/Department team, providing professional leadership and management within the work environment. The post holder will be accountable and responsible for the standards of care provided within the ward/department and for leading, supporting and implementing innovative practice.
The post holder will provide direct patient care, demonstrating specialist knowledge and act as a resource and role model for the clinical team. To work in liaison with other Senior Nurses/Department Managers and the Assistant Director of Nursing to implement Directorate/Divisional service plans.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC code of Professional conduct and work within limits of competence.
- To maintain high standards of care by personal example and conduct and be a credible practitioner in the area.
- Have overall responsibility for the ward area.
- Participate in the daily personal care of patients.
- To be responsible for Ward/Department nursing staff and to provide a quality and cost effective service in accordance with Trust policy and procedures.
- Ensure that accurate records are kept of all care given in the Ward/Department.
- Act as the key person in the coordination and communication of complex, sensitive, emotional, condition related issues to patients, relatives and to the multi-disciplinary team.
- Takes the lead role in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualised, evidence based patient care including the monitoring of care standards through audit and other activities.
- Effectively and professionally deals with emergency situations and debriefs staff where appropriate, ensuring support is available.
- To establish and promote a safe, clean, therapeutic environment for patients, visitors and colleagues.
- To be competent in clinical skills including enhanced practice relevant to the clinical area.
- To develop a positive team culture and manage recruitment and retention of the workforce.
- To demonstrate and promote professional, clinical and managerial leadership acting as a resource and providing guidance to own staff.

- Registered Nurse on appropriate part of the NMC Register
- Working towards a relevant degree, or equivalent experience
