NNUH is currently the busiest Trauma Unit in the East of England caring for almost 850 trauma patients annually many with complex care needs. We are enhancing our urgent and emergency care specialist services for patients with significant injuries as a result of trauma and have an ambition to become a Major Trauma Centre.

The post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) Team at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital are recruiting  Band 5 Registered Staff (Staff Nurses/ODPs) to join their busy team.

PACU is centrally placed in the Main Theatre Suite (of 17 Theatres) and has 24 bays (Including 4 Paediatric bays). We also support activity in the Day Procedure Unit, two Obstetric Theatres, MRI/CT (for patients having had general anaesthesia) and the Brachytherapy Suite. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team (Nurses, ODP's, HCA's, TWS's, Medical staff) you will care for adults and children in the immediate post-anaesthetic/surgical phase.

The PACU Team is dedicated to improving patients' experience by undertaking Quality Improvement initiatives such as: expanding our services as a PACU, anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation and Improving care (surgical pathway) for patience with a Dementia diagnosis.

All Trainees work in a supernumerary capacity alongside an assigned mentor until asses as being competent to work independently. In-service training, covering Recovery practices are already available and exciting opportunities such as simulation training are forthcoming.  As a teaching Hospital we support student nurses and student ODP's from both adult and child branch in collaboration with the UEA.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

To provide a professional competent service to patience in a safe clinical environment. The postholder will be expected to undertake the post-anaesthetic and post-operative management of adult and paediatric patience, using their initiative to asses, plan and implement care intervention to include:

  • Assume autonomous responsibility of patients care once a handover from the anaesthetist and the surgical team has been given.

  • Work in collaboration with the appropriate anaesthetists, relevant consultants and their multi-disciplinary care teams.

  • Demonstrate by skills and knowledge the care of the unconscious patience with particular reference to basic and advances airway management.

  • Provide continual observation and monitoring of physiological parameters using non-invasive and invasive techniques

  • Provide extended care for patience post-operatively who have a high dependence satus, requiring stabilisation before transfer to the HDU/ICU

  • Supervise and maintain high standards of patient care by demonstrating and understanding of the NMC/HPCP conduct & local codes of practice
  • Ensure that Trust/Theatre policies, procedures and Health & Safety legislation are adhered to.

  • Train and supervise  students within the department including agency, bank, newly qualified and new members of staff.

  • Develop knowledge surrounding the side effects of anaesthesia/surgery with patients who on occasions exhibit disorientation/confused status Ie. Physical/verbal aggression.

  • To support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH’s ‘PRIDE’ values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence and demonstrate behaviours that support and encourage an inclusive culture
