Job overview

Our Norfolk & Waveney Perinatal Community Mental Health & Lotus Maternal Therapeutic Outreach Teams won the NSFT Partnership Awards 2024.  Each member of the team shows compassion and care towards one another, supporting each other to help each other meet service user needs in a timely way.

Here’s what our carers/service users have said ‘’The team were fantastic in supporting me in my journey back to being well and being able to be a mum to my baby’’.

This vacancy sits within the East and Waveney locality offering a mix of working in our beautiful seaside towns and lush countryside.. Within our specialist service you will be part of a supportive and collaborative team with low manageable caseloads, with friendly, visible and accessible senior staff and medics. We offer specialist perinatal training, line management, caseload and clinical supervision monthly.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of Consultant Psychiatrists, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, a Therapies team, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Assistant Practitioners, Peer Support Workers, Occupational Therapists, Community Team Managers, a Matron and a Service Manager specialising in perinatal mental health.

We are looking for a Nursery Nurse with relevant Parent and Infant Mental Health experience to join our Perinatal Community Mental Health team. Knowledge on baby brain development and how they communicate using this to mentalise their thoughts and feelings, being curious and holding what this may feel like from both birthing person and baby perspective is essential.

The Perinatal Community Mental Health Team provides prevention, detection and management of mental health problems that complicate pregnancy and the postpartum year.

Working for our organisation

Here at NSFT we pride ourselves on being a welcoming, talented, friendly and supportive team who like nothing better than sharing experiences and learning from each other. In addition to ongoing training and development opportunities, we are committed to providing an environment in which you can thrive.

Why work for us? We have challenges as a Trust, but we have ambitious aspirations, are pushing ahead with exciting transformation work and we need dedicated individuals to support us on our journey. We have strong, established professional networks coupled with an exceptional leadership team who will ensure you are truly cared for and cared about.

Why Norfolk and Suffolk? The people here are warm and welcoming, you’ll never be far from the beautiful coastline or Broads National Park. We’re an hour and a half away from London and have an international airport in Norwich too. Our villages, towns and cities are packed full of history, independent cafes, shops and theatres. We have excellent shopping, eating out, top ranking schooling and affordable house prices too.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role is unique. You will have the opportunity to support birthing individuals/ parents who have developed perinatal mental health problems during their pregnancy or postnatal period to care for their babies, ensure that the emotional and physical needs of the babies are met and engage in activities to promote the birthparent and infant relationship.

The attachment relationship between birthing person and child underpins the work undertaken, holding baby in mind and being their voice at times when this may be hard for the parent, but also shedding light on and celebrating what they are doing well.  The Nursery Nurse role supports birthing people on their journey of parenting,  offering nurture and support through therapeutic interventions such as baby massage, VIG, Watch Wait Wonder, Circle Of Security and Solihull as they navigate support within their mental health.
