Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated and passionate diabetes team at Harrogate District Hospital providing specialist care for inpatients, outpatients, pregnant ladies, young adults and patients with complex diabetes. The team also provide structured education for people with diabetes and have an established diabetes technology service. 

The post will include partial weekend working on a rotational basis in order to provide a 7 day inpatient diabetes service.

You will be a good team player but able to work autonomously, always striving to improve the care of and empower people with diabetes to self-manage where appropriate. Some diabetes and leadership experience would be advantageous for the role.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve providing specialist advice, treatment and management plans for adults with diabetes, their families and/or carers as well as providing education and training for patients and MDT colleagues as required. It will also involve providing support to community nursing teams, GP surgeries and community colleagues, acting as a specialist resource and advocate for patients with diabetes.

Qualifications and experience

Essential criteria
  • Registered General Nurse
  • Diploma or post registration diabetes course or working towards, or equivalent experience
  • Management qualification or experience
  • Proven ability in teaching and presentation skills
  • Previous experience in diabetes care or equivalent clinical nurse experience in diabetes in an acute or community setting
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to degree level or working towards
  • Independent Nurse Prescribing Course or willing to undertake
  • Teaching qualification
