Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team in Harrogate as a Consultant in the Microbiology Department.

The successful candidate should hold CCT or CESR, or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview, and have FRCPath or equivalent.  This replacement post attracts 7 PAs. Any applicant who is unable, for personal reasons, to work the advertised number of programmed activities is encouraged to apply for the post. Please note that the successful candidate will be expected to participate in the out-of-hours and weekend on-call rota on a 1/4 basis providing cover to the acute Trust and GP colleagues. The weekends are covered from home.

Main duties of the job

You will be working with three Consultant Microbiologist colleagues, between them providing approximately 2.5 WTE. We are a very friendly, clinically-orientated department, and like to be seen out on the wards.

The Department of Microbiology is based at Harrogate Hospital, a small but vibrant DGH providing all the usual DGH services.  In addition, the Trust has a very large community reach, covering the whole of North Yorkshire and beyond. We pride ourselves on close working with local GP colleagues, and the out of hours GP service is provided by the Acute Trust. The department has its own UKAS accredited laboratory, which receives approximately 130,000 specimens per annum, of which 25,000 are in serology. Harrogate District Hospital Laboratory is a partner of Integrated Pathology Solutions (IPS).  IPS is an innovative joint-venture pathology service between Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust, Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.  We have excellent laboratory and clinical virology cover from Leeds
