Job overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to join our Day Surgery Unit as the Ward Manager for the Day Surgery Ward and Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU). Our GIRFT accredited Surgical Hub undertakes elective surgical day procedures in a dedicated and specialist environment.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to provide strong, visible leadership and clinical and operational management across both areas. You will lead a dedicated Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), fostering a culture focused on patient safety, high-quality care, and performance excellence. You will be expected to work collaboratively with the Lead for Day Surgery Theatres to ensure the smooth running of the department.
Main duties of the job
- Provide effective leadership and day-to-day management of the Day Surgery Ward and PACU
- Lead and inspire the MDT to deliver outstanding patient-centred care
- Promote and embed a culture of safety, quality improvement, and efficiency
- Ensure the highest standards of clinical care and patient experience within the Surgical Hub
- Take responsibility for operational decision-making, often working autonomously and without direct supervision
- Respond rapidly to changing demands, making sound, informed decisions to support service delivery
- Drive performance, service development, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse or ODP
- Educated to Post graduate level qualification or equivalent experience
- Significant experience within an Operating Theatre department/Ward
- Demonstrable experience at a band 6 or above level with relevant specialist practice in either ward or theatre environment.
- Knowledge of service improvement methodologies such as IMPACT methodology.
- Experience of leadership and management
Desirable criteria
- Leadership / management qualification
- PACU experience
