Registered Nurse - Paediatrics

NHS AfC: Band 5

Job overview

Passionate, enthusiastic, well-organised and eager to further your skills – if this is you, read on!

We are looking for a Registered Paediatric Nurse to join our friendly team  part-time (min 23 hrs). Our ward has a small team of people who work closely together, promoting our Trust’s values – kindness, integrity, teamwork and equality.

Woodlands paediatric ward has 16 beds with an additional clinical assessment unit for general medical and surgical paediatric patients as well as day admissions. We also have a high dependency cubicle on the ward for very unwell children and we work very closely with Leeds Children’s Hospital.

What are the benefits of working for HDFT?

· Internal staff are able to apply for a rotational Band 6 development role which allows a Band 5 to gain management experience for a fixed term of 12 months.

· Adult trained nurses with paediatrics experience are welcome to apply and are able to attend EPALS

· All nurses have the opportunity to rotate between ward, SCBU and A & E to gain more experience

· Levels 1 and 2 Critical Care are offered to nurses who wish to develop their professional skills

· All staff have access to a plethora of free wellbeing and support programmes

· Harrogate is a beautiful town in which to live and work

Unfortunately we are unable to offer Paediatric OSCE training to Nurses registered overseas, therefore having an NMC PIN is an essential requirement of this role.

Main duties of the job

You will provide exceptional nursing care while working alongside your peers. You must be able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and experience required for this position and have a keen interest in your ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice.

We provide all new starters with a robust induction programme and we have a part time designated Practice Development Nurse on hand to help provide 1 -1 teaching and support in identifying your professional development needs.

Main duties

  • To provide child centred, evidence based care on Woodlands Ward, SCBU, Paediatric Outpatients and elsewhere in the Trust as appropriate.
  • To implement and evaluate family centred care and to be responsible for the delivery of care.
  • To take delegated responsibility for patients working as part of a team ensuring the smooth operational running of the Unit.
  • Mentoring pre-registration students.
  • Act as Nurse in Charge of the shift as required

Working for our organisation

At Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust we provide outstanding care to both our patients and our staff. We support staff through benefits, health and wellbeing initiatives and opportunities for personal and professional development.

  • An inclusive and supportive culture our Trust encourages staff to bring their whole selves to work and active Staff Networks identify areas for improvement.

  • Employee Support and wellbeing - we have a comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme, counselling service and fast track physiotherapy service for employees.
