Paediatric Diabetes is a small, dedicated team within the Paediatric Service, comprising a Consultant Paediatric Diabetes Lead, PDSNs’, Children’s’ Paediatric Specialist Dietitian, Child Psychologist, and administration support.
The function of the team is to deliver a complete multi-disciplinary approach to the diabetic children’s service with a desire to drive forward the current service. To deliver on national targets ensuring diabetic children receive excellent care at every contact.
The team have strong links with the adult diabetes team to provide continuing care for young people with diabetes
Main duties of the job
• Act as a clinical expert and professional resource for children, family and carers and members of the multi-professional team, within speciality of Paediatric Diabetes.
• Work cohesively with other PDSNs’ and colleagues within the diabetes team to ensure the development and delivery of a high-quality service.
• Deliver high quality, clinically effective care, and patient experience, utilising research and in collaboration with colleagues in everyday practice.
• Act as a role model and clinical resource demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership in the specialist area.
• Support the development and delivery of a programme of practice and professional development for staff within the speciality.

Essential criteria
- NMC registered children’s nurse
- Experience of caring for children and young people with diabetes
- Teaching/assessing qualification
- Degree or equivalent demonstrable experience
- Management experience (ward level or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- Nurse Prescribing or willing to undertake
- Diabetes post graduate qualification or willing to undertake
- Experience as a paediatric diabetes link nurse
- Experience of working in a community setting
