Job overview

An exciting position has arisen within our community Speech and Language Therapy Team (SLT) with Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust.  You will provide highly specialist skills to work clinically with this complex and diverse adult community caseload alongside the friendly and supportive SLT team for Hambleton & Richmondshire based in Northallerton

You will provide operational leadership and work closely with the SLT  leadership team at HDFT . You will provide direct line management for several members of the team. There is an opportunity of being the team lead for the department if you have the right experience. 

Clinically, you will provide highly specialist assessment and treatment to  wide range of adult neurology patients. This will be both in our outpatient clinic based at the Friarage Hospital and also in patient's own homes. It also provides opportunities to work with complex dysphagia, dysfluency and voice, and other complex presentations that arise.

A monthly videofluoroscopy clinic is held at the Friarage Hospital, so skills in videofluoroscopy are desireable and training can be provided in this area. 

Main duties of the job

The post will enable you to develop highly specialist skills within a supportive team structure, with regular supervision and the opportunity to contribute to the development of the service.

The role includes:

  • Attending the monthly quality of care meetings with the team leads and managers from the wider teams, and ensuring there is governance within the team
  • Leading on service development and clinical effectiveness
  • Line management of team members
  • Providing clinical supervision
  • Assessment and treatment of adult neurology patients with communication and swallowing needs - this can include virtual work
  • Assessment and treatment of patients with dysfluency or voice difficulties as competent to do so - this can include virtual work
  • Providing support, supervision, training and line management of SLT/SLTAs as required
  • Jointly leading the videofluoroscopy clinic at the Friarage Hospital (dependent on skill set)
  • Being the team lead for the Hambleton and Richmondshire SLT team (dependent on skill set)

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Masters degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience of joint work with SLTAs
  • UK driving licence
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant post graduate dysphagia qualification to masters level
  • Leadership Development courses
  • Videofluoroscopy experience
