Job overview

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Contract Type: Permanent

If you are looking to begin or progress your career as a Band 5 Dietitian in a supportive department which emphasises clinical supervision and peer support, as well as learning and development across the Four Pillars of Practice, this may be the post for you!

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the growing team of over 30 Dietitians in York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as a Dietitian based at Scarborough Hospital. You will be joining a forward thinking department which is valued and respected throughout the Trust, and crosses many specialties.

We will support you to develop skills across many areas of acute hospital work. If you are a newly qualified Dietitian in your first year of practice, we have a Preceptorship programme to help support development of your skills and confidence as an autonomous practitioner.

The ability to transport yourself and equipment across the locality during the course of a normal working day is required for this vacancy.

Main duties of the job

You will have the opportunity to work with many experienced Dietitians, as well as within broader multi-professional teams. You will be working with other Dietitians, Dietetic Support Workers and Assistant Practitioners, and together you will provide inpatient services across areas, including General Medicine, Surgery, Critical Care, Gastroenterology, Care of the Elderly, Cancer and Renal disease.

Within the acute setting, in addition to oral nutrition support, you will be able to develop clinical skills working with patients requiring enteral tube feeding and parenteral nutrition.

You will mainly be working within Scarborough Hospital, however there will also be the opportunity to work cross-site when required, including at York Hospital.

The department places a strong emphasis on clinical and peer support and clinical supervision, and has a well-established programme facilitating the training of Dietetic students on the three clinical placements included within their training. We are also involved in delivering a variety of rolling training programmes for other healthcare professionals across the Trust, relating to nutritional care.

The successful candidate will be involved in these important aspects of supporting the learning and development of others.

Please note: a face to face interview will take place on 17th May 2024 at York Hospital.

Working for our organisation

We are proud to offer our Multi-Professional Preceptorship Programme to all newly registered practitioners. This is a wonderful opportunity to welcome you into your new teams and our Trust, providing you with support and guidance as you develop in confidence and competence  whilst transitioning from student to autonomous professional.

Preceptorship lasts 12 months and you will be assigned a preceptee who will support coach, mentor and guide you through regular meetings, along side a programme of structured learning.

For more information please see the documents attached or contact the Preceptorship team yhs-tr.preceptorship.nhs.net
