Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Cardiologist with sub-specialty interest in Coronary Intervention at York Hospital.

A new, greater capacity Vascular Imaging Unit is due to open in Winter 2025 and we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Consultant Interventional Cardiologist to join our dedicated cardiology team at York Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing interventional service within a supportive and forward-thinking Trust. 

Main duties of the job

  • Provide expert care in interventional cardiology, including coronary angiography and PCI.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of cardiology services across the Trust.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to clinical governance.
  • Support junior medical staff and participate in teaching and training activities.
  • Contribute to on-call rota and emergency cardiology services.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Hold a medical qualification registered with the GMC
  • Hold of license to practice with the General Medical Council
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Cardiology via; - CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) - CESR or - European Community - Trained in Coronary Intervention as per CCT requirements. - Rights (within 6 months of completing a training programme recognised for the award of CCT or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate research
  • Fellowship in coronary intervention or experience in calcium modification techniques / IVUS / FFR and OCT. Level 2 accreditation in CT Coronary Angiography Interest in structural heart disease, or other specialty interest

Clinical Practice / Competence

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical experience and skill required for gaining UK CCT in Cardiology +/- General Medicine
  • Interventional training and skills required to take up an interventional post
  • Knowledge of good medical practice and the General Medical Council requirements
  • Is able to work effectively in spite of pressures
  • Demonstrates a sound knowledge of clinical governance practice
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of developing cardiology services and staff to enhance patient care.
  • Completed an interventional Fellowship

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Experience of teaching undergraduate and post graduate trainees
  • Ability to teach clinical skills
  • Experience of undertaking audits and presenting their findings
  • Experience of supervision of postgraduate trainees
  • Ability to critically review research
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of supervising SpRs/specialist trainees
  • Publications in peer review journals
  • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
  • Experience of teaching lay groups and paramedical staff
