Job overview

We are welcoming applications from Band 6 Deputy Ward Managers for a positions as Ward Manager on our Community Inpatient Unit at Nelson’s Court Ward 1. This will be a fixed term position commencing in Late September 2025 for a period of 12 months at 37.5 hours per week (1.0 wte). In line with trust developments this will be a supervisory Band 7 Ward Manager position focussing on providing excellent standards of patient care and promoting quality and excellence within our nursing team.

Main duties of the job

Nelson’s Court Ward 1 is a 19 bedded community rehabilitation unit providing rehabilitation to the local population of York. We work in close partnership with our multi-disciplinary team and Primary Care colleagues in providing excellent standards of care for patients who are transitioning from hospital and progressing towards discharge.

 You will have recent experience as a Deputy Ward Manager, ideally with previous or current community experience and be competent in leading and managing a team.  You will currently feel confident in deputising for your Ward Manager and working autonomously within a ward environment. You will demonstrate excellent adherence to our trust behaviours and vision and will lead your team by example striving to deliver excellent standards of patient care each and every time. You will show a strong commitment to staff development and wellbeing and in leading a fair and just learning environment where incidents are investigated with honesty and transparency. You will be a visible and approachable leader and provide patients and their families with a key point of contact for the unit.
