Job overview

The Neurology/Headache Team has an exciting new opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Headache. This role would be suitable for a candidate who has an interest or some experience in neurology with relevant knowledge and who is keen to develop their skills in this area.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the current Advanced Headache Nurse Specialist and Consultant Neurologists. The aim will be to enable them to develop their competencies in this highly specialised role.

This is a highly satisfying, but demanding role and it is essential that candidates are extremely motivated, proactive, dedicated and willing to learn.

Main duties of the job

The role will consist of working within the Neurology/Headache team based at York Teaching Hospital. The post holder will work closely with the nursing and medical teams.

Main Duties include:

• Responsibility for the management of a defined caseload

• Continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards of care

• Provision of specialised treatment plans for patients including Botox and Greater Occipital Nerve block injections

• Provision of specialist nursing care and advice to a specific patient group and contribute to the development of the specialty service

• Ensuring cost effective use of resources

• If working as a non-medical prescriber to also initiate and prescribe treatment and evaluate its clinical effectiveness
