Job overview

Consultant in Orthodontics

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

·        Are you looking to be part of an experienced and supportive MDT?

·        Are you passionate in providing high quality orthodontic patient care?

·        Do you want a working environment that supports your clinical and academic development?

We are looking to welcome an enthusiastic colleague who will continue to provide excellent care in the enjoyable and friendly atmosphere of our orthodontic department at York and Scarborough Hospitals.

This Consultant post is a full-time post (10 PAs) based at York Hospital, but with a clinical commitment at Scarborough Hospital.  We are open to discussion regarding flexible/less-than-full-time working.  The successful candidate would participate in the Orthognathic and Orthodontic/Restorative MDTs and would carry out the full range of orthodontic consultations and treatments appropriate for secondary care apart from the treatment of cleft patients.  We are happy to accept applications from candidates planning on sitting the ISFE in the next 6 months.

Main duties of the job

The department is part of the Head and Neck Directorate which sits in the Surgery Care Group and is based in the Head and Neck outpatient department with Audiology, ENT, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Restorative Dentistry.  There is an on-site laboratory, and the department is 3D-enabled with intra-oral scanners, 3-Shape design software and 3D printers.

You will be working alongside two Orthodontic Consultant colleagues, one of whom also has clinical commitments at Scarborough Hospital and one who has clinical commitments at Harrogate District Hospital.  There is also an orthodontic specialty dentist, clinic assistant and therapist in York and therapists in Scarborough and Harrogate.  The dental nursing team is excellent and extremely helpful, as are our secretary and reception team. You will also be working with two Restorative Dentistry consultants and several Maxillofacial surgeons, two of whom undertake orthognathic surgery which is 3D planned. Joint orthodontic/restorative patients have access to a full catalogue of treatment options including dental implants and associated hard and soft tissue augmentation.

There are excellent teaching and research opportunities with orthodontic trainees shared with Leeds Dental Institute and funded by HEE Yorkshire and Humber.  The Trust is actively raising its research profile.
