Job overview

We are looking to appoint a motivated individual to join our Payroll Team at York Hospital. We are a friendly team providing a vital back-office service. 

Successful candidates with NHS and payroll experience will commence as a Band 4. If you don't have any payroll or NHS experience, training will be provided to gain a payroll qualification and you will start as a Band 3 moving to Band 4 on successful completion.

It is essential that this work is carried out accurately and efficiently. You must be able to demonstrate that you have the necessary organisational, administrative and communication skills, the ability to work under pressure and using your own initiative.

Main duties of the job

To provide simple day to day control of a section of the Trust’s Payroll. Responsibility on a self managed basis to ensure consistent high level of performance delivery in a confidential, accountable and customer focussed manner.

You will have a willingness to embrace new technologies and change. Experience in PAYE and Pensions, whilst beneficial, is not essential, as training will be provided.

Good interpersonal, organisational and planning skills are essential for this post, as are excellent communication and customer care skills.  This position offers a good development opportunity with potential for further progression.

Person specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of general education to GCSE level or equivalent, including Maths and English Language
  • NVQ Level 2 in administration
Desirable criteria
  • Previous Office/Administrative experience in an NHS environment

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Computer literacy skills
  • Office experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office, Excel and word.
Desirable criteria
  • Any payroll experience
