Respiratory Physiologist

Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a full-time Respiratory Physiologist at the Respiratory Investigations Department at the brand new Corby Community Diagnostic Centre.
This role will involve undertaking a range of respiratory diagnostic tests, performing full PFTs – including spirometry, gas transfer and body plethysmography, interpreting results and producing reports, and providing support to the Respiratory Investigations team and its continuing development.
This is a lone working role with support from Respiratory Investigations at Kettering General Hospital, part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group.
Main duties of the job
- To perform full PFTs – including spirometry, gas transfer and body plethysmography.
- To perform spirometry with FeNO and bronchodilator response.
- To set-up, give out and upload data from sleep diagnostic devices.
- To obtain relevant patient history and consider contraindications for testing.
- To make decisions regarding patient suitability for testing, when to conduct limited testing and when to terminate testing.
- To obtain good quality results – well performed and repeatable – from patients. This requires very good communication skills.
- To interpret results correctly and produce a well written report. This requires good understanding of national guidelines and local SOPs.
- Maintain inventory and management of consumables to support Respiratory Investigations in ordering for Corby CDC.
- To liaise with the Chief Respiratory Physiologist at Kettering General Hospital on all matters.
- To support the continuous development of Respiratory Services at Kettering and Northampton General Hospitals, part of the UHN Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group, and Corby CDC.
- To advise other Healthcare Professionals at Corby CDC.
- To support and train junior members of staff.
- To be involved in audit and research programs where necessary.
- To take personal responsibility for compliance with all Trust and Departmental infection control policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree in Respiratory Physiology, Biological science subjects or equivalent.
- ARTP part 1 & 2 or equivalent
- RCCP (Registration Council for Clinical Physiologist) registered or eligible for registration
- IT skills – Microsoft word and office
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of experience to support the development of sleep and ventilation services and to the continuous development of Respiratory Services.
- Use of various computer software
- NHS experience
