Job overview

Kettering General NHS Foundation Hospitals  are seeking an experienced, motivated and dynamic clinical pharmacist with excellent communication and leadership skills  to join our established, friendly clinical pharmacy team.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering clinical pharmacy services as part of the Antimicrobial stewardship team.  This role will contribute to the delivery of AMS strategy in all inpatient and outpatient areas. 

Main duties of the job

  • To lead, deliver, develop and evaluate clinical pharmacy services within Antimicrobial Stewardship. 
  • To provide expert pharmaceutical care through the promotion of safe, appropriate and clinically effective use of drug therapy; ensures risks within medicine management are identified and managed; ensures compliance with all relevant medicines – related legislation and policy.
  • To manage allocated staff to ensure the effective operation of the day to day delivery of pharmacy services to the Trust and deputise for the Antimicrobial Lead Pharmacist when needed.
  • To ensure the efficient and cost-effective use of medicines utilising local and national data to drive improvements in efficiencies.
  • To advise senior and junior medical staff and nurses on medicines management issues.
  • To support the Lead Pharmacist for Professional Development with the development of all staff within the pharmacy department.
  • To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as requested by the Chief Pharmacist.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Please refer to the attached Patient Specification and Job Description.

  • Support the Lead Pharmacist for Antimicrobial Stewardship to manage elements of the pharmacy clinical service.
  • To provide cover for Diabetic foot IV OPAT service including two half day out-patient clinics. 
  • Providing professional leadership and support for other pharmacy services as needed.
  • Liaising with nursing and medical staff, senior clinicians and managers to drive forward improvements within Antimicrobial stewardship
  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment to and enthusiasm for research, audit and education in the clinical area.
  • To be a line manager to designated staff within the team. To be responsible for managing attendance and performance, and identifying staff training needs through individual performance development plans.
  • To participate in the provision of the Pharmacy on-call emergency duty service (2nd on-call).

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Master’s degree in Pharmacy
  • Registration with the GPhC
  • Postgraduate qualification in hospital Pharmacy
Desirable criteria
  • Registered Independent prescriber
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
  • Member of the RPS Faculty

Knowledge / experience

Essential criteria
  • 3 years post registration UK hospital experience
  • Clinical experience in a range of ward/clinical areas
  • Experience of leading or implementing change
  • Good clinical knowledge of commonly prescribed medicines
  • Good knowledge of NICE guidelines for common conditions
  • Good knowledge of the NHS and current priorities
Desirable criteria
  • Prior experience in working in Antimicrobial Stewardship Team
