Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist with a passion for acute care to join our forward-thinking and highly regarded therapy team.  We welcome applications from Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapists who are looking for full-time, part-time hours or secondment opportunities. This is a fixed term opportunity for 4 months. 

The post holder will be leading a roaming therapy team providing expertise and assessment to the discharge hub, escalation areas and medically fit ward/areas with complex therapy needs impacting discharge.  

Main duties of the job

 

 The main duties of the role entails:

  • Be the therapy representative at discharge hub meetings – providing consistent, expert therapy advice to inform accurate and appropriate hub decisions first time. 

  • To provide advice and support to ward therapist on complex cases delaying discharges (identified via, discharge hub, bronze, stranded or therapy staff themselves).  

  • To provide therapy cover to escalation areas – ensuring these are prioritized equally to the base wards.  

  • To provide additional senior therapy decision maker on the medically fit wards to enable positive risk conversations and improve flow.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
  • State Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development through maintenance of a portfolio.
Desirable criteria
  • Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapist or Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Knowledge/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work across 7 day service
  • Relevant experience working within the NHS environment.
  • Education of other MDT members.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of community-based therapy services and services that external partners offer.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to carry out in-depth Therapy assessment of patients with complex needs.
  • Ability to work effectively, efficiently and safely within clinical boundaries, in clinical areas, to deliver high standards of care to our Orthopaedic patients
  • Ability to present information both written and verbally in a clear and logical manner.
  • Evidence of people management and leadership skills
  • Ability to use standardised assessments appropriate to this client group
