  • A Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
  • Confident in autonomous decision‑making and clinical assessment
  • Calm under pressure and able to adapt to fast‑changing situations
  • Compassionate, non‑judgemental and committed to equitable healthcare
  • A strong communicator with excellent teamworking skills

Experience in prison nursing is helpful, but not essential—we provide full training and ongoing professional development.

Please note this post is subject to security vetting. To be considered for this post you will need to have continuously resided in the UK for a minimum of 3 years prior to this application and be able to evidence your years of residency. 

Main duties of the job

About the Role

As a Prison Nurse, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide a full range of primary care and urgent treatment services to people in custody. You’ll support individuals with complex needs and chronic conditions often being the first point of clinical contact.

Your day may include:

  • Conducting assessments and delivering evidence‑based nursing interventions
  • Managing long‑term conditions and supporting treatment adherence
  • Responding to emergencies and providing first‑line urgent care
  • Administering medication and supporting medication management
  • Working closely with mental health, GP, pharmacy and substance misuse teams
  • Promoting health education, harm reduction and rehabilitation
